e-Class | Product classification standard for information exchange between customer-xs and their suppliers |
e-commerce | E-commerce consists of the buying and selling of products or services over electronic systems such as the Internet and other computer networks. Electronic commerce draws on such technologies as electronic funds transfer, supply chain management, Internet marketing, online transaction processing, electronic data interchange, inventory management systems, and automated data collection systems. |
e-commerce software | An e-commerce software is any software that supports selling and buying products or services over electronic systems such as the internet and other computer networks. |
E-mail is the abbreviation for electronic mail. It is a method of exchanging digital messages, designed primarily for human use. | |
e-mail marketing | E-mail marketing is a form of direct marketing which uses electronic mail as a means of communicating commercial or fundraising messages to an audience. In its broadest sense, every e-mail sent to a potential or current customer-x could be considered e-mail marketing. E-mail marketing software refers to a computer application which provides the ability to send bulk e-mail to target audiences. The intent is usually to send newsletters or promotional materials to opt-in lists of subscribers, although the software can be used to send unsolicited e-mail. The software typically includes a database that stores contact information, campaign statistics, and message history. The interface provides features necessary to run an e-mail campaign, such as message sending, contact entry, contact importing and reporting. |
e-mail marketing provider | An e-mail marketing provider (e.g., eCircle) is a company that provides and performs e-mail marketing like sending newsletters to the customer-x on behalf of a merchant. The e-mail marketing provider collects newsletter subscriptions / un-subscription via different sale channels like the online shop or stores and sends e-mails to them. Typically, the merchant creates the content and the layout of the newsletter (HTML and text format) and submits the files to the e-mail marketing provider. |
edit mode | In the consumer channel, a preview on pages created and managed inside publications using (legacy) Enfinity Suite 6 content management. |
editing system | In a data replication environment, the editing system is a dedicated Intershop 7/Intershop Commerce Management installation used to prepare or update the data in the "background" without disturbing the operation of the live system. |
edition | In Enfinity Suite 6's content management, collections of content intended for publication at any point in time. |
EDL | EDL is the textual modeling language for Intershop 7 and Intershop Commerce Management. In EDL, several implementation artifacts like persistent objects can be modeled. The EDL models serve as input for the code generator. |
elasticity | In Intershop Cloud Management, elasticity refers to the option to automatically scale the environment size up or down, according to the actual load. |
end of life | End of life is the point in time after which an Intershop product will be maintained on a functional as-it-is basis. This means, there are no functional enhancements after that point in time, only bug fixing of critical and serious issues. Technical enhancements and 3rd party updates are to be decided case-related. End of life (EOL) is an internal milestone only. The end-of-life date is 3 years after general availability. |
end of support | The end of support is the point in time from which on Intershop will no longer deliver any supporting services and will stop any maintenance activities, incl. defect fixing, for a product. Support and maintenance beyond that date must be covered by an individual support contract. EOS is to be announced publicly, since standard support contracts can not exceed that date. The end of support is 5 years after general availability. |
end-of-life date | in Enfinity Suite 6, Intershop 7 and Intershop Commerce Management, a product lifecycle attribute that defines the time after which a product is not longer available nor supported (while still being visible in the storefront) |
Enfinity Suite 6 | set of pre-defined business applications to serve sales, procurement and content management processes, predecessor product of Intershop 7 |
enterprise resource planning | Enterprise resource planning system is an enterprise-wide information system designed to coordinate all the resources, information and activities needed to complete business processes such as manufacturing, supply chain management, financials, projects, human resources and customer relationship management, order fulfillment or billing. |
environment | In Intershop Cloud Management, an environment is the "bracket" for one or more clusters, i.e., complete, fully functional Intershop Commerce Management systems. Environments live in the context of a project. Environments can have specific configurations, like with or without data replication, with or without elasticity. |
epic | In agile software development, an epic is a large user story, typically one that is too big to implement in a single iteration. Typically, epics are lower-priority user stories, because once the epic works its way towards the top of the backlog, it is disaggregated into smaller ones. |
ERP system | a software system for enterprise resource planning, used to manage and coordinate all the resources, information, and functions of a business from shared data stores |
escalation workflow | in Enfinity Suite 6's procurement model, a definable procedure for approving requisitions in case of budget violations, i.e., if the budget on which the requisition is charged exceeds a certain limit |

existing customer | After a period of time defined by the merchant, a new customer becomes an existing customer. |
experience management | Experience management is the collection of processes a merchant uses to track, oversee and organize all interactions with customer-xs during their relationship. With Intershop Commerce Management, this includes marketing features like A/B tests or promotions as well as web content management, media asset management, SEO and others. |
expiration date | In B2C models, the end of the period of time during which a coupon can be redeemed |
explicit product binding | in Enfinity Suite 6, directly assigning a category to a product |
export | In Enfinity Suite 6/Intershop 7/Intershop Commerce Management, export refers to operations for migrating data out of the database for further use in other systems (based on the import/export framework). |

Currently, there are three types available for the particular code artifacts: Java, ISML template and pipeline. |
external supplier catalog | catalogs maintained outside Enfinity Suite 6 that are bound to the system through the Open Catalog Interface (OCI) |
